Are there any pictures of sideway edging?

I thought I might do the sideway edging to finish off my triangular shawl. I've googled but haven't found any pictures. Does anyone have any please? I don't want to edge my shawl unless it is what I'm looking for. It is mohair so frogging is not an option

  • Try the books by Nicki Epstein " knitting on the edge" etc. Try the library or amazon, I think you will find them very helpful.

  • I did a simple, made-up sidewise edging on this shawl @ Flickr.

I have also seen a YouTube video on it.

Practice the edging with a smooth yarn first.

  • Take a look on Ravelry. There should be plenty of shawls with sideways edging to view.

  • I think you will find what you want in Galina Khmeleva's book, Gossamer Webs.

  • Barbara Walker's "Treasury of knitting patterns" ((#1 or #2) have wonderful edging patterns. For mohair, I like to use something which is called "Grandmother's Edging" (I'm writing this down from memory, so I can't guarantee I'm correct). It's a lace edging, knit on every row, but since it's mohair, the garter stitch doesn't have much definition. It's an effective edging which is very pretty and very easy to add as a sideways treatment.
