Baby Surprise Jacket

Baby Surprise Jacket

This was my first EZ pattern to try. I loved making it. I used self-striping DK weight yarn by moda lea. It was a baby gift for a friend. The baby is due June 30. I had such fun making this sweater that now I want to try the adult surprise jacket.

  • This is a beautiful jacket! I can't believe how great the self striping yarn works for things other than socks (how do they do that???). Great choice and the stripes turned out so well. Thanks for showing us this - gives me a little more confidence using this yarn.

  • What size needles did you use...and what was your guage...it's very cute.

  • Hi again - My Baby Surprise Jacket should fit a baby about 6 months old to a year.

My gauge was 6 stitches to an inch and I used size 3 needles. I tend to knit loosely.

The sweater only took 100g of yarn. Remember that the yarn was a DK weight and not fingering weight.

Thanks for all the positive comments- they made my day. ; )

  • Oh what perfect yarn! I love that one. What will you use for your adult surprise?

  • Your BSJ is so adorable. Great yarn choice. Thanks for sharing the photo, yarn requirements and needle size.

  • I, too, am interested in the adult surprise jacket. Can this be knit in a dk or sport weight yarn? I hate heavy jackets to wear and to knit.

  • OK. That decides it. Self striping! How cool is that. Great job . . . I have yet to knit a garment.

  • Outstanding BSJ! :)
Did you use the Moda Dea "Sassy" yarn?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 4:57 PM

  • Yes, my yarn was the "sassy" by Moda Dea.

I haven't made the adult sweater yet. I think you can use any weight yarn you like...you just need to make note of your gauge and knit the sweater accordingly. I think!
