Help with Percentage System?

Hi All -

I am about to embark on a top down raglan sleeve sweater for myself. I was wondering if anyone could tell me which book has the more updated EZ percentage system. I made a sweater for my husband using the older percentages and it ended up with the tighter sleeves and I don't want that to happen again!

Thanks for your help everyone!

  • That's a good question and I would be interested in knowing the answer also. In a 1/12/07 post to this KAL (My First EZ- A Yoke Sweater) Meg placed a comment about the updated percentage system. She didn't say where it was documented. I wouldn't limit yourself to just EZ books. The latest on this may be in one of the Schoolhouse's DVDs. You may want to phone Schoolhouse and ask your question.
I believe the old percentage system stated 8% of stitches on threads for the underarms. The update version is 10%. But I think there was an update to the upperarm percentage also. HTH's Sue

  • I've been using 27-30% for my cuffs, instead of 20% and it really helps.

  • meg has a comment somewhere on this blog saying that she has updated the uppersleeve to be 40 percent. i did two sweaters where i did 38 percent and i must say that it works perfectly. a very nice width i think. i also made the sleeve cuffs something like 25 pct. i don't remember what ez suggests. you can see how the sleeves work on the pictures on my post 'hybrid in action' earlier this week.

  • What a timely question, as I am just now starting the sleeves on my son's sweater and thought that 20% on the cuff did not seem to be enough. I was thinking of going 25% when starting the sleeve. It is nice to benefit from the knowledge of those who have gone before me.

  • I found this bit of information tucked away in my archives from 2003:

Wool Gathering #69 contains the updated percentage system.
Knitters 4-part series on basic raglan sweater from Meg (K58 - K61, Spring '00 - Winter '00) contains the updated percentage system.

Also, if you call Schoolhouse Press, they will be happy to help. SchoolhousePress.com should have contact information.

    Hope this helps.

  • I just added a post to the blog about how I figure out how many stitches to use for my sleeves. It's not exactly EPS, but close. I hope it's helpful.
